The Dam Skydivers is a full service skydiving training facility that is owned and operated with the intent of availing to clients the sense of adventure and aliveness that parachuting has brought into our experience.
It is an honor and a sincere pleasure to invite others into this sport, and into our community, as we rermain inspired by the joy and freedom that is experienced together on every jump.
As a people-first company, we are actively engaged in supporting the communities surrounding Stockton Lake and are committed to serving through volunteering, donations, and improvement projects, as well as partnerships with other local businesses.
Adrenaline. It’s that feeling when your heart starts beating faster, the blood flow increases to your brain and to your muscles, your body is stimulated to make sugar to use for fast and decisive action, you get a surge of energy, start breathing fast, maybe start shaking a little, fear is almost palpable, and yet SO IS euphoria..!
You’re likely to experience this multiple times from the moment you reserve your first skydive. And then, just when the rush begins to fade away, the “skydiver glow” starts to creep in. So be forewarned, you may have a smile glued to your face hours after the jump (no extra charge.)
You may not remember what you ate for breakfast yesterday, or the first few months of sleep deprived haze after your child was born, or even sometimes your very own name …
... but you will never forget your first skydive. There’s a reason so many people say it’s the experience of a lifetime.
“Somebody opens the door, and in that moment, you realize you’ve never been in a freaking airplane with the door open. You’re looking out down to death. They say, ‘On three,’ and they say, ‘One, two,’ and he pushes you on two because people grab on three. You go, ‘Ahhh.’ You fall out of the airplane. In one second, you realize that it’s the most blissful experience of your life. You’re flying. There’s zero fear. You realize at the point of maximum danger is the point of minimum fear. It’s bliss...
Why were you scared in your bed the night before? What do you need that fear for? Everything up to the stepping point, there’s actually no reason to be scared. It only just ruins your day. The best things in life are on the other side of terror, on the other side of your maximum fear, are all of the best things in life.” - Will Smith, on skydiving.
You know those famously good restaurants, usully mom ’n’ pop shops, with autographed framed pictures of celebrities and heros hanging all over the walls? Becoming a skydiver is basically like putting your picture up on that wall. Though it possibly originated as far back as 1100 in some rudimentary form, parachuting technology was developed as a tactical World War I effort to save lives of shot-down pilots and and to gain access to otherwise unreachable areas.
Today, parachuting remains relevant in airborne forces. It has an increasingly significant role in military operations. To show off some of the modern technology and skills of military parachutists, the Army has constructed a demonstration team known as the Golden Knights, who you may have seen skydiving into NFL stadiums pre-game. Red Bull also contracts a number of extreme skydiving athletes who perform promotional stunts.
Addtionally, any celebrities, including Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Maisie Williams (aka Arya Stark), and even George HW Bush have famously taken to the skies.
Not to get overly touchy feely, as we do have an extreme athlete reputation to uphold, but … there’s something magical about skydiving. There just is. You take your regular self on a plane to skydive, and somehow that self never leaves the plane, and the you that touches down under parachute is seemingly transformed. Lighter. Yet, fuller. Energized. Yet, completely at ease. Fully alive. Fully zen. It’s as if your spirit needs fuel, and what it runs best on is adventure, discovery, and terminal velocity.
As Leonardo da Vinci once said, "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
The Dam Skydivers is staffed by enthusiastic and highly trained, USPA/FAA/UPT certified professionals, and is built on a foundation of skydiving operations dating back to 1974. There is great diligence on every front, by every member of our staff, to create an absolutely once-in-a-lifetime experience for you.
Our goal is for you, as a member of our skydiving family, to think “AWESOME!” (in the air, two miles above the earth, going 125 mph) and then to be just as wowed by the personalized attention you receive on the ground. We are excited to be a part of your adventure, and will make this adrenaline-packed experience as truly incredible as possible.
Our premier location offers simply breathtaking views of the gorgeous Stockton Lake which stretches and sprawls over 25,000 acres, displaying its pristine, clear blue waters for our viewing pleasure during the airplane ride to altitude, and then again during our descent back to terra firma. We can also view Pomme de Terre lake and the lush green and rolling Ozarks landscapes below.
Skydiving is awesome. There’s no doubt about that. But, scenic skydiving DEFINITELY kicks it up a notch.
Skydiving is an experience that just cannot be rivaled; nor can the care and personal attention that you will receive as a first time (or second time, or long time!) skydiver with the Dam Skydivers. We offer concierge services and assign a personal skydive ambassador to each client. We also boast a strong, speedy aircraft that is the perfect size to accommodate comfort, while still offering an intimate experience.
It’s a true privelege and bragging right to offer the very unique benefit to our customers of the privately chartered aircraft experience on every skydive - meaning, everyone on board our plane during your skydive works for you. Your ride to altitude will include just the pilot, your instructor, your videographer, and you. This makes for a highly personal, first class experience with the luxury of attentive staff and the leg room to relax.
A lot of people think that leaving the airplane is the most exhilirating part of the skydive. They imagine themselves “jumping out” when they think of it. The thing is, after our skydivers actually complete their first jump, they often change their minds about this. Even as seasoned jumpers, we think the most exhilirating moments are those that are spent in transition from inside the plane to outside the plane. That is, the climbout.
As we reach the appropriate altitude for jumping, and the plane decreases its speed, you will hear “Door!” just before the portal of terror (ahem, the door …) is opened. At this time, the brisk 80mph air rushes into the cabin, roaring its announcement that there is now an open space for you and your instructor to occupy.
Together, you will move across the cabin floor towards this space, and you will place your feet outside of the aircraft, onto the step that you used to climb into the plane before takeoff. You will be sitting on the threshold, effectively outside of the aircraft, tethered on the edge of free fall, held back only by the weight of your instructor behind you. You will place your hands on your harness. You will smile (or grimace) for the camera. You will receive a count down, and … to be continued! Reserve your skydive now to find out what happens next.
One of Missouri’s greatest hidden gems is Stockton Lake. It is an outdoor lover’s paradise, offering beautiful, open waters that support all manner of water sports, excellent fishing, family friendly swimming beaches and SCUBA diving, and is one of the country’s top 10 sailing lakes.
Stockton Lake has multiple full service marinas, and is maintained by the Army Corp of Engineers which has preserved the natural beauty of the lake’s shorelines. Wildlife can be found in abundance in the area, including a healthy population of Bald Eagles frequently observed soaring over the lake. There are also over 40 miles of trails around the lake for hiking, mountain biking running and horse back riding.
From luxury cabins to campgrounds, and everything in between, there are many acommodations that put you right at the lake. We are happy to offer shuttle services to and from your dock or marina, and can assist in accommodations or watercraft rentals.

Steve has been in the industry for over 20 years and has reached a level of excellence and achievement that few have, earning his ratings from the United States Parachuting Association as an AFFI (Advanced Free Fall Instructor), TI (Tandem Instructor) for Sigma, Strong and Vector parachuting systems, CC (Certified Coach) and PRO rating for exhibition skydiving. He has also been appointed as an S&TA (Safety & Training Advisor), has lead safety course education activities across the region and is certified through the FAA as a Senior Rigger of parachute systems.
We are located at Stockton Municipal Airport, in Stockton, MO adjacent to the 25,000 acre watersports paradise known as Stockton Lake. We are just 2 hours south of Kansas City, and less than two hours away from Springfield, Branson, Lake of the Ozarks, Warrensburg and Joplin!
All tandem passengers and students must be over 18 years of age, and less than 220 lbs and have a healthy BMI the day of their skydive. A valid photo i.d. is required prior to jumping.
Skydivers should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the season, and tennis shoes.
We only use the most modern parachutes with square shaped canopies at The Dam Skydivers. These canopies allow exceptional controllability and stand-up or easy slide in landings into our grassy landing area.
Tandem skydive training takes approximately 20-40 minutes, and consists of an instructional video and personal briefing from your instructor. You will be attached with a 9-point harness to your instructor for the tandem, so there is no burden of responsibility for you during this skydive other than to relax and have fun! During the briefing, you will be introduced to the aircraft, the equipment, and the basics of the skydiving “arch” – the body position that will allow you to have the most comfortable skydive. Then, we will assist you in gearing up and preparing for flight.
As with most activities that one engages in on a daily basis, such as driving a car, it is not risk free. The risk of driving a car is mitigated by prioritizing safety through simple but effective habits such as wearing a seatbelt, obeying speed limits, driving with awareness and caution, maintaining one’s vehicle, etc. As technology has improved over time, skydiving in general has become much safer and the risk has diminished drastically.
In addition, The Dam Skydivers utilize exceptionally trained professionals, and meticulously maintained-equipment. Two such pieces of equipment that you should know about: the AAD and the Reserve Parachute. An AAD is an Automatic Activation Device which deploys your parachute for you in the unlikely event that your instructor does not, and the Reserve Parachute is a second, back-up parachute that is on board every skydive in the unlikely event that your main parachute does not deploy. So, you can already start to relax. Your safety is our primary concern.
Yes! You can become a licensed skydiver through additional training, which our center has specialized in for years. Please let us know if you are interested!
Unobstructed landing area, excellent air to ground communications, extremely qualified professionals with decades of experience, well maintained gear and onsite parachute professionals, friendly and personal atmosphere, great sense of community, regular social events, and absolutely stunning scenery.
The timeline to licensing depends on the student’s availability to skydive, and individual pace of skill development. It is not uncommon to see students graduating in the 3-6 month range.
After completing ground school, student skydivers go through three phases of training.
Phase 1 consists of a training tandem at $199 and 7 Advanced Free Fall (AFF) jumps @ $175/jump.
Phase 2 coaching jumps are required next, an average number is 3-5 coach jumps, but it varies from student to student, @ $75/jump.
In the final phase, students are released from the coaching phase and complete solo jumps for the remainder of their student progression (25 minimum jumps to be eligible for USPA A License) @ $25/jumps.
Ground school is an 8 hour course which teaches the basic knowledge required to complete a solo jump safely and involves no air time (hence the name!) Course offered @ $100.
Ground school is hosted on a monthly to bi-monthly basis with rolling admission. Watch for announcements on facebook, or reach out to us about the next session.
Gear rental is included in Phase 1 and 2. In Phase 3, you will need to rent gear. The cost is $35 per jump or $50 for a daily rental.
Too many reasons to list! Skydiving is a thrilling hobby, challenging sport and a family-like community that will absolutely enrich your life. Let us know if you want to join the sky family, and become a Dam Skydiver.
We host a small fun jumping club experience, please inquire if interested in jumping with us.
We do currently require the use of an AAD, on every jump by every jumper.
Yes! Campsites, cabins and airbnbs are plentiful at the lake. We are happy to help you find one!
We will need you to register with us by signing a waiver, and producing a current data card and USPA membership card. After that, you are all set! Blue skies.
